Zavra Mosque
The building complex, the Zavra Mosque in Livno, was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Decision of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina, adopted at the session held from 6 to 10 July 2004. Protection measures established by the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Protection of National Monuments established under Annex 8 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina are applied to the national monument.
On 1 April 2026, expert conservation supervision was carried out over the conservation and restoration works at the Zavra Mosque in Livno. The supervision was carried out in the presence of representatives of the Majlis of the Islamic Community of Livno.
For the works in question, the Federal Ministry of Spatial Planning issued a construction permit based on the project documentation “Main project of conservation and restoration works on the Zavra Mosque in Livno” and the expert opinion of the Institute for the Protection of Monuments.
The first phase of the works was carried out by the company “Graditelj Fajić” d.o.o. Mostar, and included the replacement of the wooden roof structure and covering, as well as the manufacture and assembly of the wooden elements of the minaret. The roof and the minaret were in a rather bad condition caused by lack of maintenance. In this phase of the works, a new joinery modeled after the existing one was made and installed.
Conservation and restoration work continued in the interior of the mosque. The existing mimber and mahfil were dismantled as described in the project documentation, marking all the elements on the basis of which new ones will be made of identical materials.
In this phase, a painter-restorer will be engaged for investigative and discovery work on the mihrab, on which the remains of different layers of colored plaster are visible.
The works are performed in accordance with the project documentation and according to the defined dynamics.
